Welsh at Willowbrook

Welsh Coffee Afternoon - Tuesday 13th of May 2025

Dear parents, carers and Governors,
we are hosting a coffee afternoon on Tuesday the 13th of May from 14:20pm to 14.55pm.

Join Miss Jenkins, Miss Johnson and members from the Criw Cymraeg to discuss our progress with the Siarter Iaith Silver Award. We will also share some Welsh language patterns that you can help your child with at home and demonstrate some Helpwr Heddiw games too.

Thank you for reading, we hope to see you there.

Yours sincerely,
Archie, Sienna and Matthew,
Criw Cymraeg.

Our Welsh Phrase of the fortnight for next week is.....

Beth sy'n bod? - What's the matter?

Mae bola tost gyda fi - I have a belly ache
Mae pen tost gyda fi - I have a headache

Da iawn to Lydia, Olivia and Emily from Criw Cymraeg for making the excellent video.

Llongyfarchiadau, Congratulations Willowbrook!

We have achieved all ten targets of Cymraeg Campus and have officially been awarded the Bronze Award. A big thank you to all members of staff, parents and governors who participated and supported the school in achieving the award. The biggest thank you must of course be to the children of Willowbrook. You have shown your passion, dedication and enthusiasm to Welsh. Diolch yn fawr!

As part of achieving the award, two representatives of Criw Cymraeg were invited to the Cymraeg Campus Awards Ceremony. Both girls have created a video to show how we celebrated.

Cymraeg Campus

The ‘Cymraeg Campus’ Language Charter is a framework which will help us to promote and increase the use of Welsh across the whole school. It will provide a strong, Welsh ethos and all members of the school are encouraged to take full ownership of it. We at Willowbrook are aiming to achieve the Bronze award from the Language Charter and must achieve ten of the following targets:

1. Establishing a visual Welsh ethos.

2. The advantages of learning Welsh.

3. The use of incidental Welsh in the classroom.

4. The use of incidental Welsh outside of the classroom.

5. Welsh in assemblies.

6. Apps and websites to enhance learning and enjoyment.

7. Enrichment activities.

8. Developing reading.

9. Welsh across the curriculum.

10. A positive attitude.
