About Willowbrook Nursery

About Willowbrook Nursery

Willowbrook Primary School was opened in 1989 and then extended in 1991.The building is a very pleasant crescent design, giving an air of light and brightness.

In the nursery department of the school we have an impressive range of resources which are used to promote children’s development and challenge their interests and imagination both indoors and outdoors. Our outdoor classroom was officially opened by Jane Davidson A.M., Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning, on 2nd April 2004.

In December 2007 the school was inspected by Estyn and they reported that Willowbrook School is an improving school that has made good progress since the previous inspection in 2001. In the Early Years department, the inspectors reported that the standards in all Areas of Learning were good with no important shortcomings

We have structured daily routines in which there is sufficient flexibility to cater for each child’s needs and to encourage independence of choice.

As the children progress we provide opportunities for learning experiences in:

  • Personal and social development, well-being and cultural diversity
  • Language, literacy and communication skills
  • Mathematical development
  • Welsh language development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development

Young children learn through purposeful play activities which enhance and extend their knowledge. Through play they become aware of themselves, of others and learn the rules of social behaviour. Our aim is to provide a stimulating, safe and happy environment for their learning to flourish.

As part of their overall experiences, educational visits and visitors will be arranged for the children from time to time. All visits adhere to our Health and Safety Policy criteria approved by Cardiff County Education Department.
