• Year 5 visit to Storey Arms

  What a week we had...strong winds, heavy rain, sleet, hail, rainbows and sun all rolled into four unforgettable days in the Brecon Beacons! Our Year 5 group experienced new adventures, tried new sports and activities and most definitely proved themselves to be resilient, committed and positive throughout. The pictures paint the picture so well and as teachers, we also thoroughly enjoyed sharing with them on this exciting and adventurous learning journey!

  

• Fruit Promotion by the Healthy Crew!

  Great work again our 'Healthy Crew' who have turned their idea into a reality and have once again done a great job in promoting healthy eating! A great variety of fruit, beautifully laid out and eagerly enjoyed by the pupils. Well done to Mrs Ellis and the Crew for encouraging us all to eat and enjoy our 'five a day!'

  

• Paper Aeroplane event!

  We had a great time welcoming over 80 parents & grandparents through our doors to see their hard work in making paper aeroplanes to launch! There were many creative designs showing great aeronautical skills! Well done to everyone for contributing so positively to the sessions; it was lovely to see the hall buzzing with conversation and creativity.

   Congratulations to two of our pupils whose planes travelled the furthest...10.3m and 11.1m - that was nearly the length of the hall itself!

  

• Girls' Football Festival

  Our girls' football teams took part in a festival at Leckwith Stadium and performed really well. Both teams played 6 games and won their respective groups, narrowly missing out on the semi-finals! Well done girls, great skill and tenacity shown across the board!

  

• International 'Day of the Girl' event

  It was great for some of our KS2 girls to be in involved in this international event showcasing their talent and skill across a range of disciplines at UWIC. The photos show their finesse and enthusiasm and showed the talent pool at Willowbrook while also recognising equal opportunities for all of our children. 

  

• Shwmae Day

  We celebrated 'Shwmae Day' at Willowbrook today and the school was abuzz with friendly Welsh greetings being exchanged...but it doesn't end there! We'll keep the Welsh going and for the new week (w/c 15/10/18) our phrase of the week will be 'Hwyl Fawr' a fitting way to end every day! The photos here include our super 'Criw Cymraeg' who are keeping the Welsh flag flying!

  

• National Fitness Day!

  We had a great day today taking part in a range of fitness related activities! This included learning how to play squash, completing a skills circuit and KS2 pupils being challenged to test their fitness against the bleep test! Amazing to see some pupils reaching Level 14! Well done all and thanks Mrs Reeves for organising a great day - let's keep the fitness momentum going!

  

• Year 5 & 6 pupils visit Old Trafford

  Well, what an occasion it was for 26 Year 5 & 6 pupils (and 6 staff!) to visit Old Trafford to see Manchester Utd play Derby in the Carabao Cup! The game had everything...brilliant goals, a red card, the ebb & flow of the scoreline and then a penalty shoot out culminating in Derby winning 8-7 on pens! The pupils had a wonderful time and were a credit to take along. Willowbrook even got a 'mention' on the half-time notice board!

  

• Collaborative Maths learning!

  It was great to see our Year 5 pupils provide a range of mathematical games and puzzles for our Year 3 pupils to test themselves against! A wide variety of games were designed that absorbed the pupils' interest and it was really encouraging to see how clear their Maths understanding was in rising to the challenge - great designing and excellent calculating all round!

  

• Enterprise Sale!

  Wow, what a busy and industrious week we have had at Willowbrook! Sales were strong during our 'Enterprise Sale' which was held today! The variety of goodies and general merchandise once again showed the talent and creativity of our children and our huge thanks to our Mums, Dads and Grandparents who joined us to make today's sale a spectacular one as the pictures show!
