    Information for Parents/Carers

    Keeping Children Safe Online

With the prospect of schools across Wales remaining closed for a significant period of time, the likelihood of children spending a considerable amount of time researching, gaming or communicating online will increase. The priority for all parents and teachers is to keep children safe online, prevent harm and safeguard at all times. People may choose to exploit the most vulnerable within our communities because they understand during these challenging times children will be online more than usual. Please consider the following when you or your child is online.

    Children should;

    • Know who they are talking to
    • Check if they can access material, play games
    • Protect their online reputation
    • Only open messages from sources they trust
    • Do not give out personal information
    • Do not share images, video of inappropriate material
    • Speak to someone if they feel uncomfortable
    • Understand not everything online is true
    • Block and report people who are trolling
    • Do not give into pressure
    • Think before they post
    • Keep safe online

    Parents should;

    • Monitor who their child is communicating with online
    • Monitor the content and material accessed or downloaded
    • Check content is appropriate
    • Set boundaries and parental controls
    • Discuss their online activity
    • Manage / check privacy settings
    • Know where to find help

    (Message provided by Cardiff Council)

  • Childcare from Monday 30th March 2020

    Fri 27 Mar 2020 D Thomas

    Good evening parents,

Childcare from Monday 30th March 2020

From next week, the Council will move to operating a sustainable childcare provision in a small number of centralised locations across the city, in order to reduce the number of schools opening to provide childcare for key workers. These locations will provide childcare for pupils from designated local ‘feeder’ schools.  The feeder school for pupils in Willowbrook Primary School is:

    Bryn Hafod Primary School,

    Blagdon Close,

    Llanrumney,

    Cardiff,

    CF3 4HF

Please note that keyworkers that are critical to the COVID-19 response are advised that childcare provision should only be used if there is no safe, alternative form of childcare available.

Any new requests for childcare provision, where parents and carers in keyworker categories have no other safe alternative, must apply using the online form by accessing the following link

    www.cardiff.gov.uk/keyworkerchildcare

Support for Pre-school children can be made using the Council’s Family Gateway. Once registered, parents will be contacted by the provisions team to arrange admission, at the earliest possible opportunity, from Tuesday 31st March 2020.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a place.

    Kind regards,

    Mrs Thomas

  • Health and Safety -Coronavirus

    Fri 06 Mar 2020 D Thomas

I am receiving regular bulletins and updates from the Welsh Government and the Health and Safety Department of the County Council in relation to the Coronavirus. You will be aware from the media coverage that the situation, is changing day by day and if there are any significant developments that affect schools, be assured we will let you know immediately.

The following link will take you to the latest information from Public Health Wales, which is updated daily at 3pm: https://phw.nhs.wales/news/public-health-wales-statement-on-novel-coronavirus-outbreak-in-china/

The guidance from the Health and Safety Department of the County Council in relation to hand gel is as follows:

Hand gel is not needed – correct handwashing is much more effective, however it can be used in addition to handwashing if school want to; Alcohol based hand gel is the most effective – it can be used in schools,  however the use must be supervised. So a staff member would need to dispense it to each child, and make sure they rub it in to their hands. ( so that the  gel is not misused;  ingested, inhaled etc)

In view of this we will be attempting to purchase hand gel for each class which the teachers will dispense. However I think supplies are low everywhere at the moment.

We are encouraging and reminding all children to wash hands regularly using soap and water and to use tissues to catch coughs and sneezes. We have posters around school to remind children also.
